What Is NTS?
The National Testing Service (NTS) is Pakistan's largest testing organization. It conducts entrance tests for universities, recruitment tests for government departments, and screening tests for scholarships. If you're applying for a government job or university admission in Pakistan, chances are you'll face an NTS test.
NTS Test Pattern
Most NTS tests follow a standardized pattern:
- Format: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
- Questions: 100 MCQs
- Time: 90-120 minutes
- Negative marking: Usually no negative marking (but verify for your specific test)
- Sections: English, Quantitative, Analytical, Subject-specific
Subject Breakdown for NTS GAT/NAT
English (20-30 MCQs)
Verbal ability, reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, sentence completion. NTS English questions test practical language skills. Practice regularly with English MCQs to build speed and accuracy.
Quantitative Reasoning (15-20 MCQs)
Basic math: percentages, ratios, algebra, number series, data interpretation. Review fundamental concepts and practice mental math.
Analytical Reasoning (15-20 MCQs)
Logical sequences, pattern recognition, critical thinking. These questions test your problem-solving ability rather than memorized knowledge.
General Knowledge (20-30 MCQs)
Pakistan affairs, current affairs, Islamic studies, everyday science. This section overlaps heavily with one paper content. Use General Knowledge, Pakistan Affairs, and Everyday Science MCQs for comprehensive preparation.
NTS Preparation Timeline
4 Weeks Before: Start with a diagnostic test. Take 100 mixed MCQs on One Paper to identify your baseline. Check your Dashboard for subject-wise performance.
3 Weeks Before: Focus on weak subjects. If English is weak, dedicate 30 minutes daily to grammar and vocabulary. Use Flashcards for quick memorization of facts, formulas, and vocabulary.
2 Weeks Before: Practice full-length tests under time pressure. 100 questions in 90 minutes. This builds exam stamina and speed.
1 Week Before: Review all wrong answers via Review Cards. Focus only on revision — no new material. Stay updated with recent current affairs.
NTS Scoring Tips
- Attempt all questions: Most NTS tests have no negative marking
- Don't spend more than 1 minute per question: Mark and move on
- Use elimination: Remove 2 wrong options first, then choose
- English is your friend: Well-prepared candidates score 80%+ in English
- General Knowledge decides outcomes: This is where most candidates differentiate
